One of the three divisions making up the Ngorongoro District is currently undertaking fresh population census which also includes getting the exact number of livestock owned by the residents there.
Official reports indicate that this special 2013 census in the Ngorongoro Division is being held to complement the National Population and Housing Census of 2012, with emphasis to just getting the correct number of the Maasai residents who live within the Conservation Area Authority.
Operating under the Acting Conservator for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), Mr Bruno Kawasange, the special census 2013 committee which includes Dr Karaine Ole Kunoi, the District Council Chairman and Mr Polycarp Nkuyumba, the Division Secretary, has announced that the exercise which started on the 15th of July, has been accomplished by over 80 per cent so far.
“The fresh census being carried out in the NCAA comes from the directives issued by the Prime Minister’s Office through its Relief, Emergency and Disaster Response directorate,” explained the census committee, adding that officials from the Prime Minister’s Office have also been involved.
The new 2013 Census is being executed by the Ngorongoro District Council, the Conservation Area Authority as well as the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the Ministry of Natural resources and Tourism and the Arusha Regional Commissioner’s office.
