The redesigned-for-2013 RAV 4 is more sleek and chiseled than previous models.

The Toyota 2013 RAV 4 has undergone its first major redesign since 2006. When purchasing any new vehicle it’s important to learn as much as you can about what you’re buying before making the final decision. Here are the top five things to remember when searching for your perfect RAV 4.

1. Power

The 4-cylinder trims contain a 2.5 liter DOHC powertrain, which is able to reach 179hp with 172 ib-ft of torque. The V6 trims contain a 3.5 liter DOHC powerplant, which is able to reach 269 hp with 246 ib-ft of torque.

If you have been hit by the hybrid bug, then you’ll be glad to know that an electric model named the RAV4 EV will also be released in the near future, which will run on 115kW Tesla Motor batteries and is expected to be able to last for over 100 miles on each charge. This model will be able to produce an impressive 154 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque.

2. Design

Although the 2013 model looks sleeker and more chiseled than its predecessor’s it isn’t hugely different in terms of design, bar a few minor adjustments, such as the hourglass shaped upper and lower grilles. This may bother you if you’d prefer a vehicle that will turn heads and make the neighbors talk.

3. Interior

The interior contains air conditioning, a CD/MP3/WMA player, cruise control, steering wheel with audio options, and jam protected electric windows as standard. The fabric trim can also be replaced with either premium fabric or leather, depending on your own specifications.

4. Trims

The Toyota 2013 RAV 4 has a variety of different trims, including; Base, Limited and Sport. These three options can be configured for either front or all-wheel drive; and with either a 4-cylinder or 6-cylinder engine. This allows you to have the choice of 12 different trims in total.

5. Safety

The safety of the 2013 RAV 4 has been vastly upgraded from previous models. It will contain curtain airbags as standard, duel front airbags and a stability control unit. Safety is often one of the most overlooked factors when purchasing a new vehicle and is something that you should always thoroughly look into before making a buying decision.
