27.7 per cent households in Rwanda are headed by women

NISR Director General Yusuf Murangwa (2L) Negatu Makonnen, the Resident Representative,  Africa Development Bank (C) and Central Bank vice Governor Monique Nsanzabaganwa (R) arrive for  the launch of the National Gender Statistics Report, 2013 in Kigali yesterday.

According to the report 27.7 per cent households in the country are headed by women. The study was done to highlight the gaps between women and men and also provide a viable benchmark on the gender status in different development sectors. The report further indicates that 26 percent of female headed households are below extreme poverty line, although a small per cent are not poor. [Maria Keitesi]
