The past two years have been fruitful for the people in Tanzania following John Magufuli taking the office of president. Finance and Planning Minister said Wednesday to the Parliamentarians over 3,600 small to large scale industries have come up in the country during the period.
Dr Philip Mpango was addressing while presenting a 32.5trn draft budget for FY 2018/19 to the members of parliament. He said more funds are being pumped in the private sectors so that the industrial economy is flourished. The meeting was attended by Deputy Speaker Dr Tulia Ackson too
The minister added, “Our new plan is to engage the private sector in the implementation of development projects.”
The government said about one hundred industries will be built in every region of the country and there are several under construction at various stages. The maximum is at Coast Region with 47 industries and it is followed by Dar es Salaam with sixteen industries, Mwanza with thirteen and Tanga with 7.
Dodoma, Shinyanga, Arusha, Mtwara, Kagera, Katavi, Mbeya, Lindi, Morogoro and Kilmanjaro have less than five new factories each.
The minister said Mwambani Port, Mchuchuma/Liganga, Standard Gauge Railway line and Tanga-Arusha-Musoma railway line will be implemented under PPP in the next financial year.
He further added, “We are also considering to engage the private sector in operating the Dar es Salaam passenger train, natural gas connectivity to thousands in the city as well as running the Second, Third and Fourth phases of the Dar rapid transit.”
