Adama Barrow Takes Oath As Gambian President In Senegal

Following the deadline expiry of incumbent Yahya Jammeh tenure on January 19 Google is showing Adama Barrow is the new President of Gambia.

Barrow has also been sworn in, but not in Gambian capital Banjul. The ceremony was held at Gambia embassy in Senegal capital Dakar on Thursday.

Following the oath taking Barrow said Gambian will never forget the day. The event was televised on Senegalese TV channels.

Earlier Thursday the new president tweeted, “I would like to inform you that the Inauguration Ceremony is going to take place at the Gambian Embassy in Dakar, Senegal.”

Wikipedia has recognized Barrow as the new and third president of Gambia who was sworn in in the Gambian embassy in Dakar, Senegal, on 19 January 2017 after winning the presidential election last year on December 1.

Barrow is the member of United Democratic Party (UDP) and has studied in London, England. He operated a real estate agency in the country and established Majum Real Estate. He was treasurer of UDP too.

He is a devout Muslim having two wives and four living children. His eight-year-old son died recently on January 15, 2017, after being bitten by a dog. For security reasons he was in Senegal and couldn’t attend the funeral.

During his days in England he became a fan of English football club Arsenal.

French president earlier said Gambian election results of December 1 must be respected while welcoming Barrow at the summit.

He said, “Everything must be done so that on Jan. 18, or effectively by Jan. 19, he can take office.”
