Agency helps 85pc graduates acquire employment

The Tanzania Employment Services Agency (TAESA) yearly helps 85 per cent of about 800,000 graduates in different fields and levels to acquire jobs within and outside the country.

employmentTAESA Spokesperson, Mr Peter Ugata told a press conference in Dar es Salaam that the agency has also counseled at least 8,294 job seekers, to pursue the right profession for the past four years.

“We are preparing a database for job seekers to link them with employers countrywide,” said Mr Ugata.

He pointed out that the agency has helped a total of 1,959 job seekers to acquire jobs in Oman, Denmark, United Arab Emirate (UAE) and India and that the agency has an ideal system which coordinates connection between local job seekers and employers outside the country.

“We have a system that protects Tanzanians from being engaged in illegal business like human trafficking,” he said.

However, Mr Ugata said shortage of human and financial resources remains a major challenge for the agency as it carries out its goals, adding that some job seekers and employers do not use services offered by the agency. “There are no enough job opportunities compared to the number of graduates or job seekers in the job market,” he said.

Mr Ugata said TAESA plans to conduct research on job opportunities in different sectors in order to help job seekers through information provision. TAESA is an Executive Agency under the Ministry of Labour and Employment established under the Executive Agency’s Act, Cap 245 Revised Edition 2002.

It was established in the spirit of the government in converting some of its departments and units into executive agencies for the purpose of improving the delivery of public service, creating environment conducive to efficient and effective management, improving the quality of employment services.
