AKM To Support Farmers For Development Of Poultry Industry In Dodoma

Dar es Salaam-based AKM Glitters Company Limited announced to be handing over about 4,000 chickens to forty farmers to help in the growth of poultry industry in the newly built capital city Dodoma.

Addressing media on the occasion of launching of Association of Poultry Farmers in Dodoma the marketing manager of agricultural sector firm said their special programme would offer technical and business capacity to farmers for the purpose.

Dodoma Regional Coordinator for the Project, which is jointly conducted by Tanzanian Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA) AKM, said 14m/- worth project would provide support to poultry farmers in districts like Dodoma, Chamwino, Kongwa and Mpwapwa.

It is learned the farmers will get Kuroiler breeds on loan to help in the growth of poultry industry. The company has partnered with the government, agriculture tertiary institutions, national security schemes and vocational centres for the purpose. It has a wide outreach of farmers too.

The Kuroiler breeds weigh about four kilogrammes in average and about three months ago those were ready for the markets. Such breed start hatching during the fourth month and annual average production capacity is expected to 200 eggs.

Poultry farmers would be loaned with about 1,000 chickens and access to affordable quality veterinary medicines as well as vaccines would be facilitated.

The company said, “Apart from provision of chicken, the company provides smallholder poultry farmers with technical and business capacity.”

Dodoma currently has a population of about 400,000 and located in the centre of Tanzania. It is well connected by rail and road.
