Minister for Energy and Minerals, Prof Sospeter Muhongo has requested that Algeria increases the number of scholarships to Tanzania.

He announced this on Friday evening as he officiated celebrations to mark 59 years of independence of Algeria in Dar es Salaam. He said that this year 58 students were granted scholarships to pursue undergraduate studies.
“After slightly over 50 years of independence we are getting stronger and stronger in diplomatic relations and cooperation in education. I am kindly requesting for more scholarships to Tanzanians,” the minister said.
The Algerian Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Djelloul Tabet said that his country will grant specialised training in neurosurgery to 12 doctors from seven African countries including Tanzania. He said, the annual training programme is benefiting Tanzanians regardless of their religion and social status.
The ambassador talked about the partnership agreement between the sides of the country on energy and mining sector. He said, the minister for Energy and Minerals is expected to pay a visit to Algeria this month at the invitation of his Algerian counterpart.
“No doubt that this visit will be successful and contribute to bring closer the bilateral cooperation, particularly in energy and mining sector,” he stated.
Algeria gained independence on November 1, 1954. The country has enjoyed political stability and has embarked in a strategy of human development through ambitious policies aiming at achieving social justice and a balanced regional development, as well as town and country planning.
