The statue unveiling will be postponed because according to Amy’s former boyfriend Reg Traviss, the singer’s father is not satisfied with the finished product.
A bronze statue to remember the late British singer Amy Winehouse is set to be unveiled in late September. The statue unveiling, however, apparently will be delayed because Amy’s father is not happy with the product.
“He doesn’t want anything to go up that he’s not completely satisfied with. But obviously it’s never going to look exactly like her,” Amy’s former boyfriend Reg Traviss told U.K.’s Mail on Sunday, as quoted by Yahoo! 7 News.
The bronze sculpture, which was made by artist Scott Eaton, originally is going to be placed outside of performing arts and concert venue the Roundhouse in Camden north London next week. So far, there is no info on the new date.
Amy passed away in July 2011 at the age of 27 because of alcohol poisoning. She performed for the last time at the Roundhouse three days prior to her death. The singer is mostly remembered for her album ”Back to Black” which was released in 2006. The album won Best Pop Vocal Album trophy at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards.
“Amy was a wonderful person who did a lot for Camden and for kids. She was one of the greatest singers the world has ever known, so why shouldn’t we put a statue up?” Mitch told The London Evening Standard when the idea of remembering the singer with the bronze statue was mooted.
