Anxiang Du, Chinese businessman arrives at court after 14 months on the run in Morocco after ‘slaughtering family of four’

A man has appeared in court charged with the murders of a family of four at their home in Northampton.

Anxiang Du appeared at Northampton Magistrates Court today, pictured right, after 14 months on the run. He was arrested in Morocco last year on suspicion of killing university lecturer Jifeng ‘Jeff’ Ding and his wife and two daughters, pictured right. The family were stabbed to death at their home in Wootton, Northamptonshire, in May 2011. Du, pictured bottom left, will next appear at Northampton Crown Court in March.

Jifeng and Helen Ding and their two daughters, 18-year-old Xing and Alice, 12, were stabbed at their home in Wootton in April 2011.

Anxiang Du, 54, was arrested in Morocco in July last year and was extradited on Wednesday.

He was driven to Northampton Magistrates’ Court under police escort, his face hidden under a police jacket.

During the court appearance proceedings were translated to him in Mandarin.

He was told he had been charged with four counts of murder

Mr Du, who lived in Coventry and worked in Birmingham at the time of the offences, thanked Judge Tim Daber at the end of the hearing and was remanded in custody to appear at Northampton Crown Court on 15 March.

The Ding family were all stabbed to death on the day of the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on 29 April 2011.

Mr Ding worked as a lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University and his wife worked at a school in Northampton.

Mr Du’s extradition was approved by the Moroccan Ministry of Justice in conjunction with the Home Office.
