The High Court of Tanzania, Moshi Registry is expected to conclude pending court cases by April this year to live up to this year’s theme of prompt dispensation of justice, the Court’s, Judge-in-Charge, Justice Aisha Nyerere declared.
Justice Nyerere said courts in Moshi are expected to clear all long- standing past cases up to the year 2010, adding that Tanzania has firmly set a target of ensuring timely dispensation of justice at the various levels of court proceedings and the conclusion of court cases.
Justice Nyerere told a group of legal experts at the High Court premises here yesterday that pending cases are expected to be concluded at all High Courts in the country within 24 months, District Resident Magistrate’s Court will not exceed 18 months and the Primary Court cases should be concluded within 12 months.
“Resident Magistrate’s Courts has set a target of disposing court cases to ensure all pending cases are cleared by May this year, District Courts will toe the same line while the Primary Courts have demonstrated that no cases will exceed 12 months of hearing and final disposal,” said Justice Nyerere, urging all presiding magistrates to pull up their socks.
Justice Nyerere wholeheartedly praised the Chief Justice, Judge Kiongozi and entire staff of the Judiciary for the bold measures. She urged the public to be responsible and ensure that the courts adhere to dispense timely justice to make the courts of law relevant to the Tanzanian society.
