The Arusha-Rural District council has sacked three of its officials and demoted two others from their positions allegedly for misuse of funds.
According to the District Council’s Chairman, Mr Simon Saning’o the officials who have axed include Mr Method Buberwa, Mr Andrew Bahati and Ms Karen Bwanga, the trio were the council,s accountants.
“They caused the council to suffer great losses and making it to be in the red, causing it to be listed into government’s bad books. The two other officials connected in this case and got demoted from their positions pending further investigations on the case include Mr Dominicah Mihale, the council’s treasurer and Mr Lucas Mwalusamba, the council’s pharmacist,” the council’s Chairman revealed here.
Mr Saning’o was not ready to divulge how much the five officials’ allegedly squandered saying they were still going through the accounts to determine the actual figure swindled from the council.
The sweep hasn’t spared the former Arusha-Rural District Council Director, Mr Khalifa Hida who is also tied in the scandal, but according to the Council Chairman, the issue of Mr Hida who had been transferred to Mwanza City, can only be handled by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Meanwhile, a total of 178 workers of the council from various sectors (with the exception of teachers) have been promoted as bonus for good and outstanding performances.
