Four-Time defending champions AS Kigali humiliated Evening FC 12-0 in the opening match of the 2013/14 national women league played on Sunday at Stade de Kigali, Nyamirambo.
Grace Nyinawumuntu’s side got their comfortable win with goals from Sophie Niyomugaba, who scored five times in the first half before skipper Shadia Uwamahirwe added three; Claire Uwamahoro scored two, while Annemarie Ibangarye and Gloria Nibagwire added one apiece in the second half.
Elsewhere in group A, Musanze-based Esir were held to a goalless draw by Freedom.
In group B, last season’s league runners-up, The Winners beat Academic Girls Team 8-0 in a match played at La Croix Rouge ground in Kacyiru, Kamonyi thrashed Athletico 10-0 in Rukoma, while Bugesera lost 0-2 at home to Les Lionnes.
