At least 28 commuters injured in Mai Mahiu road accident


Kiambu, Kenya: At least 28 people were Sunday afternoon injured after a bus they were traveling in was involved in an accident along Nairobi-Mai Mahiu road.

The casualties were rushed to Kijabe Mission Hospital with six in serious condition, according to the hospital management. According to reports, the occupants were heading to Mai Mahiu to attend a religious function at the town when the bus lost control.

Police termed the accident as “self involving”. A nurse, Ms Lydia said it wasn’t possible to give the exact condition of the survivors since they were still undergoing examination. She however said most of them had facial injuries with some sustaining fractures.


“We have those who will be admitted for severe injuries but some will be treated and discharged. So far we have received eighteen victims,” she said, According to Lari police boss Joshua Opiyo, the minibus was headed to Mai Mahiu.

“The bus begun swerving, hit the ground and rolled twice but luckily no fatalities were reported and we are trying to establish the main cause of the accident,” Mr Opiyo said.
