At least 60 dead in raid on Cairo protest camp.
The death toll from an Egyptian police raid on supporters of deposed President Mohamed Mursi at a Cairo protest camp has climbed to 60 at one hospital, according to a nurse who said she counted the bodies.
“We have 60 bodies here and we are expecting the death toll to rise,” said Nahla Haddad, adding that most of the casualties had gunshot wounds to the head and chest.
U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has condemned violence used by Egyptian security forces to clear Cairo of protesters demanding the reinstatement of deposed President Mohamed Mursi.
While the United Nations was still gathering information, it appeared that hundreds of people were killed or wounded in clashes between security forces and demonstrators, according to a statement by the secretary-general’s spokesperson. Reuters
