KENYA: Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi and trade unionist Francis Atwoli yesterday clashed over proposed changes to the National Social Security Fund.

Atwoli accused Kambi of specifically working behind the scenes to lock out Central Organisation of Trade Unions ( Cotu) from being a member of the NSSFBoard of Trustees.
He claimed that some cartels want to penetrate and plunder NSSF for their own selfish interests.
He asked the government to withdraw the recently published National Social Security Fund Bill 2013.

The two were speaking during the UNI Global Union Africa Conference in Nairobi yesterday.
Kambi hit back at Atwoli, accusing him of using propaganda to mislead the public.
“Atwoli is my good friend but he is going too far on this one. The interests of workers and employers will be represented but Cotu will not be mentioned in the Bill. This is a small matter that Atwoli is blowing out of proportion. No one will be allowed to plunder funds inNSSF. We are watching closely,” he said.
But Atwoli specifically blamed Kambi for being behind the machinations to lock out Cotu from NSSF board, saying the move will increase possibilities of corruption and misuse of workers’ funds.
