Police are investigating after a car crashed into a house in Lowestoft, leaving a man seriously injured.
The man, believed to be in his 20s, has been taken to hospital with “serious head injuries” after he had to be freed from his Audi TT car as the vehicle was collision with a house in Carlton Colville this morning (Sunday, March 24).
Emergency services were called to Long Meadow Walk at about 1.45am, following reports of a “RTC involving one car that had gone into a house.”
A police spokesman said that the Audi TT had “left the road and crashed” into a house.
Crews from Lowestoft South fire station and the East of England Ambulance Service attended, with firefighters arriving at the property by 1.52am. On arrival they “found one person trapped with a possible gas leak from the house.”
Amid fears of the gas leak, the road was closed while the trapped male motorist was freed from the wreckage and “was released into the care of the ambulance service.”
A police spokesman said: “He was then taken to James Paget University Hospital (in Gorleston) with serious head injuries but has since been transferred to Addenbrooke’s Hospital where he remains this morning.”
Fire crews remained at the scene to make the situation safe, as it is understood that the car is embedded in the house. Structural engineers have also been called to attend the property but no-one inside the house was injured.
The road has since been reopened, and police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident or the Audi driving prior to the collision to call the Serious Collisions Investigation Team on 101.
