NAIROBI, KENYA: ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda expressed deep sympathy to the victims ofWestgate Mall terror attack that so far has claimed 62 lives.
In a statement, The Prosecutor said Such attacks by armed groups upon innocent civilians are contrary to international law and may constitute a crime under the Rome Statute, to which Kenya is a State Party.Â
“In expressing my solidarity with the victims, their families and the people of Kenya, and with full respect for the primacy of jurisdiction of the Republic of Kenya, I stand ready to work with the international community and the Government of Kenya to ensure that those responsible for these crimes are brought to justice,” she said in a statement.
Bensouda prays that the hostages held in the mall have been safely delivered and for a swift end to this dire situation.
Meanwhile, Deputy President (DP) William Ruto Tuesday morning visited some of the victims of Saturday’s terrorist attack at the Westgate Mall , recovering at Aga Khan and MP Shah Hospitals.
Once again the DPÂ wished the patients quick recovery and reassured Kenyans and visitors that the countrys security agencies were fully seized of the security situation at the mall and the country at large and that the terrorists will be defeated.
Mr. Ruto who arrived back in the country last night from the Hague to join the President in dealing with the terrorist attack, commended the doctors and nurses at the two Hospitals and other medical facilities in the city treating the victims of the attack for a job well done.
He asked the patients to take heart and be strong in the belief that even as they make steady progress with their recovery the rest of Kenyans are with them at this calamitous time.
The Deputy President was accompanied by the Cabinet Secretary for Health James Macharia, his Labour counterpart Kazungu Kambi, Adan Mohammmed of Industrialization and leaders of Majority in Parliament and in the Senate Aden Duale and Kithure Kindiki respectively.
