Four people, including a nineyear- old boy who drowned while swimming in a pool at Water Park Hotel in Kinondoni, died in separate incidents, in Dar es Salaam, over the weekend.
In one of the incidents which occurred at Lindi/Sikukuu streets in Kariakoo, Ilala Municipality, a cobbler identified as Mustapha Thadei (31) of Kurasini Shimo la Udongo in Temeke Municipality mysteriously died while repairing shoes in the morning.
The Ilala Regional Police Commander (RPC), Ms Marietha Minangi, said that the incident occurred around 10am, adding, “He was seen vomiting blood before collapsing.”
Thadei died while being rushed to Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) for medical treatment. And when he was searched, he was found with a Mnazi Mmoja hospital card and Amoxicillin tablets in the pockets.
According to the hospital card, Thadei was suffering from tuberculosis for a longtime during his life. The body of the deceased was preserved at MNH hospital mortuary pending postmortem and burial arrangements. In another incident, a nineyear- old boy, Ally Hassan, drowned while swimming at Water Park Hotel.
The Kinondoni RPC, Mr Camillius Wambura, said that the incident occurred when the boy and his uncle Majid Mgendi (28) visited the hotel.
“It is said that the boy went swimming in the children’s pool before escaping to the adults’ swimming pool where he drowned,” Wambura said. The body was retrieved by good Samaritans and is preserved at Mwananyamala Hospital mortuary.
RPC Wambura said that in another development, a man identified as Subira Kimbuya (54), a carpenter from Wazo Magengeni area in Kinondoni Municipality died while waiting for breakfast he had ordered from a food vendor, popularly known as mama lishe, named Tabia Abeid (25) at Tegeta Mosque area.
“Kimbuya suddenly collapsed and started snoring before dying on the spot while Abeid was preparing his order,” said Wambura. He added that the body of the deceased is being preserved at Mwananyamala Hospital mortuary for postmortem and burial arrangements.
In another incident, a house girl, Elizabeth John (20), was found dead in her bedroom at her boss, Veronica Damian (30)’s house at Salasala area in Kinondoni, while blood was oozing from her private parts.
Wambura said the cause of the death is yet to be known but according to her boss Veronica, the victim had been complaining of stomach aches and diarrhoea. The body of the deceased is preserved at Mwananyamala hospital mortuary for postmortem and burial arrangements.
