Brake Pads
Working brakes on a vehicle is a given for most drivers. The majority of the car driving population assumes their car brakes will work just fine without any attention. The part of the brake system that wears out the quickest are the brake pads. Brake pads are the parts of the brake system that squeeze against the rotors (which are attached to the wheels) and slowing the vehicle.
Brake pads have a tendency to wear down quickly, and if they are not replaced in time, more damage will occur to the vehicle. Depending on your vehicle, brake pads can cost between $20-40 a set at any Firestone. Waiting too long before replacing the pads can cause further damage to the rotors and calipers. The cost to replace brake pads, rotors, and calipers can run between $250-400 at Firestone. This is ten times what it would cost to replace the brake pads.
Oil Change
An oil change averages $50 at a Valvoline station. Oil is like the engine’s blood. It lubricates and helps cool the engine. Over time, impurities will build up preventing the engine from running smoothly. Small metal particles end up in the oil as a result of the many moving parts rubbing against each other when the engine is running.
There comes a time when the engine has run for so long, the oil may start to thicken making the engine work harder to keep running. All sorts of problems can occur from the oil not being changed. In severe cases, the engine may become so damaged that it requires replacing which you can easily for a few thousand dollars at Southern Auto Parts. This is 100 times the cost of an oil change and would require a great deal more time to replace.
