The British Council is set to invest about sh24m in the youth of Kapchorwa under the London 2012 Olympic Games legacy programme.
The Kapchorwa area was selected because that is the home of the London 2012 Olympic marathon world champion, Stephen Kiprotich.
Kiprotich, who has agreed to be an international legacy ambassador, thanked the British Council for the partnership which is aimed at creating sports opportunities for the youth in hilly Kapchorwa.
This was revealed in the wake of the one-year celebration to mark the Olympic and Paralympics Games at a function held at the Uganda Museum Thursday evening.
Kiprotich, who is also the IAAF World Athletics champion following his feat at the recent games in Moscow, vowed to inspire more athletes.
“I will do all I can to see that I inspire the youth to take on sports. I feel proud of this,” said the marathoner.
British High Commissioner to Uganda, Alison Blackburne also handed over items for the London 2012 Olympic Games to the sports section of the museum.
The items included the mascot, flag, brochures, newspaper cuttings of stories of Kiprotich’s win in Moscow and London, among others.
“Our hope is that this initiative will help to improve the lives of the beneficiaries and communities,” Alison said.
UOC president William Blick said all the items that were handed over will attract even more visitors to the sports section of the museum.
