Police in Tanzania are still investigating a British national who was arrested recently on suspicion of being involved in terrorist activities in the UK, the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Robert Manumba has said.

DCI Manumba said that Igbal Ahsan Ali is facing court charges, but said that the police are still conducting intensive investigations.

“Investigations are on ongoing, and because of that we are not saying anything about the incident until we have concluded investigations,” DCI Manumba told the ‘Daily News on Saturday’’ in a telephone interview.

DCI Manumba said that they had verified Ali’s British passport as being authentic but said the Tanzanian passport he was carrying was fake. Iqbal possesses two passports under different names.

Manumba said that while Iqbal’s British passport was valid, his Tanzanian passport, under the name Adil Ally Patel, was stolen last year. Iqbal Ahsan Ali was arrested in Tanzania’s southern Mbeya region last week after being found in possession of British and Tanzanian passports.
