Bukoba District Commissioner (DC), Ms Zipporah Pangani, has ordered officials and councillors under Bukoba District Council to ensure that funds set aside by the central government for development purposes are well managed and utilized.
Ms Pangani issued the order when opening the councillors’ special session to discuss next year’s proposed budget held at Rwamishenye chambers recently.
She urged the councillors to be watchdogs and ensure that the money is properly spent to hasten people’s development.
According to Ms Pangani, the Bukoba District Council in Kagera Region intends to spend over 37bn/- during the fiscal year 2014/2015 for development purposes.
Meanwhile, about 2bn/- which was allocated by the government to the Bukoba District Council during 2012/2013 for development projects has been handed back to the Treasury unspent, it has been disclosed. This was disclosed by the District Treasurer (DT), Mr Jonathan Katunzi, during a full Council meeting.
According to Mr Katunzi, out of the unspent funds, a total of 184.8m/- was basket fund; 17.9m/- was a road fund; 59.2m/- was for the Agriculture Sector Development Programme (ASDP); 88.4m/- was Constituency Development Fund while 16.9m/- was for fighting HIV/ AIDS.
