Bunge team to probe land rows

After a weekend recess, the National Assembly resumes its business here today with Speaker Anne Makinda expected to announce the names of the MPs who form the parliamentary-select committee, that will investigate the escalating land disputes between pastoralists and other land users.

The Speaker promised to announce the names on Monday. The committee will be detailed to probe into land disputes countrywide, a dismaying situation that is said to have prompted communal fights that have caused deaths and losses of property.

According to the timetable, which was released by the National Assembly Clerk, the House will continue debating the 2014/2015 development plan proposal after a normal Question and Answer session.

Last week as MPs debated the proposal, a number of legislators were disappointed by the absence of the cabinet minister in the House. As the House continues debating the plan, more focus would also be on the minister’s response.

Tomorrow the House is expected to debate the Written Laws Miscellaneous Bill 2013. The debate will go until Wednesday. On Thursday, there will be direct questions to the Prime Minister followed by a normal Question and Answer session.

Then, the House will debate the Referendum Bill 2013. The Bill 2013 will be debated until Saturday and later on the day, Premier Mizengo Pinda will move a motion to adjourn the 13th meeting of the parliament.
