Relations between Burundi and Tanzania have not been daunted by aliens going back to their countries of origin following the latter’s order to repatriate them, the Provincial Governor for Muyinga, Mr NtahondiKunda- lldefonce, has disclosed.
He disclosed this during a good neighbourliness meeting held in Ngara district on Tuesday. “Over 5,000 Burundi citizens who were living in Tanzania have crossed the border and were received by the Bujumbura government and had been resettled.
“We thank President Jakaya Kikwete and the Tanzania government for its continued support it has provided for many years to thousands of refugees from neighbouring countries who fled to Tanzania following civil strife in their own countries,” he said.
Similar gratitude was expressed by the Governor of Chankuzo Province, Mr Nilagila Breckmas, who said bilateral relations between the two countries would be cemented.
Kagera Regional Commissioner, Mr Fabian Massawe, assured the Burundi government that Tanzania was encouraged by efforts being taken by the Burundi authorities in good governance.
He appealed to aliens living in Tanzania to follow immigration procedures. Meanwhile, health service providers in Bukoba municipality have been directed to ensure that pregnant women and children under five years get first priority.
