Busoga leaders are set to meet to discuss the poor performance of the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADs) programme in the region.
The programme that is promoting food security and nutrition has not been embraced by Busoga region, an issue that has increased malnutrition and food shortage.
This was revealed by the Chairman of NAADS, Agrey Bagiire, during a meeting between the NAADs secretariat and the Local government at Colline Hotel Mukono.
“We are yet to find out if the NAADs coordinators in Busoga are failing to deliver or it’s the people not embracing the programme and its activities,” said Bagiire.
According to Bagiire, other regions like western Uganda have embraced NAADs by focusing on money generating activities like beef catte, dairy, and banana production on the commercial basis.
“This has not surfaced anywhere in Busoga, so we hope that in the meeting with the speaker, we shall be able to come up with answers so as to drive the region a better future,” he added.
Best performing districts under the NAADs programme include Mbarara, Soroti, and Bududa among other districts.
He however cautioned politicians against interfering with the programme adding that once investigations are complete, the concerned parties will be brought to book.
