Castle Lager will organise soccer clinics in the country that will be run by Spain’s La Liga champions FC Barcelona. This was confirmed by Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) Managing Director Robin Goetzsche at the launch of Castle Larger’s partnership with Barcelona at Hyatt Hotel in Dar es Salaam on Saturday.
He said the partnership will involve soccer matters and is aimed at covering over 120 teams in the country and reaching communities in all regions. “There will be soccer clinics that will be run by Barcelona coaches and there is a possibility of the winning team in a competition organized by Castle Lager to tour Camp Nou for a friendly match,” said Goetzsche.
He said Castle Lager signed a three-year partnership deal with Barcelona on July 26 this year which makes the beer manufacturers the sponsors of the great European club in the world and in Africa.
“Our cooperation does not target business alone but also our customers and communities with the aim of developing soccer,” he said. The Minister for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports Dr Fenella Mukangara, who was the chief guest, commended Castle Lager for moving a step ahead due to their partnership with Barcelona that will improve soccer in the country.
She said the partnership has come at an opportune moment when Tanzania is giving priority to identify and develop soccer talent in various institutions and academies that lack proper infrastructure.
“On behalf of the Tanzania government I would like to thank Castle Lager for assisting us and I believe it will continue to develop the country’s soccer standard,” said Mukangara. She added that cooperation between Castle Lager and Barcelona which boasts star players like Lionel Messi, Neymar and Andres Iniesta will help change the lives of Tanzanian players.
The minister promised to work closely with Castle Lager to enable local communities to involve themselves fully in soccer. “I appeal to all Tanzanian footballers and soccer experts to grab the opportunity offered by the partneship between Castle Lager and FC Barcelona to implement programmes covered in the deal for the betterment of our soccer,” she said.
Among those who attend the launch were Spanish Ambassador to Tanzania Luis Manuel Ceuesta Civis, Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Said Meck Sadik, Ilala Municipal Mayor Jerry Slaa and Director for Sports in the Ministry of Information, Youth, Culture and Sports Leonard Thadeo.
