Babyface Confirms Engagement to Longtime Girlfriend

The songwriter will walk the aisle for the second time after popping the question to mother of his daughter, Nicole Patenburg. Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds is engaged to girlfriend of seven years Nicole Patenburg, the singer-songwriter has confirmed. This would be Babyface’s second marriage. He was married to businesswoman Tracey Edmonds for 13 years before their divorce in 2005. “I’m happy to say I’m on the love marriage path,” Babyface told The LA Times. “I’m a very lucky guy!” He actually already revealed the engagement back on February 6 during an interview with BET. When asked whether he would consider getting married again, Babyface told his “Love, Marriage & Divorce” collaborator Toni Braxton, “I’ve already considered it. I’m engaged, so yes.” Edmonds and his former back-up dancer Patenburg have been dating since 2007. They have one daughter together who was born in September 2008. He has two sons from the previous marriage. During the interview with Braxton, Babyface revealed what he learned of his past relationships, saying, “The main thing is being honest with yourself and being honest with your feelings. When we’re not honest with ourselves, we just accept situations, don’t talk about them and, as you said, ignore the elephant in the room. You better recognize there is an elephant in the room and deal with it, because a lot of times the elephant in the room is the one that you put in there, so you have to deal with it.” © AceShowbiz.com

Berlin-based band braces for Busara

Visiting OY band from Berlin, Germany is busy preparing for Saturday’s show at the eleventh Sauti za Busara Music Festival in Zanzibar. They arrived in Dar es Salaam last Saturday and on Monday they conducted a workshop for youngsters on the skill of being musicians and last night they performed at the Trinity Bar, Oysterbay in the city. Vocalist Joy Frempong told the ‘Daily News’ during the workshop at the Music Mayday Training Centre, Mikocheni that their music is “about some kind of personal message.” “I, as a person on stage, would like to transport something that has a personal touch,” she said. “I’m not looking for music that you could easily say I’m doing a particular style. I would prefer my audience to recognise that I’m telling a story but doing it in my own way.” Other members of the band, which produces its own blend of musical sounds, are Marcel Blatti on drums and sound engineer Jan Stehle. Frempong said they find it more satisfying when they come to a place like Tanzania, which is “a completely different world”, for a short stay to mix more with local artistes. “We go on stage to play to get the chance to make more physical contact with locals and leave the country with a more wholesome vibes of the place through participating in workshops,” she said. “Getting the opportunity to exchange musical ideas also gives us an added bonus of sharing musical experiences and ideas. Hearing what local people do with their equipment widens our scope of musical ideas,” she added. She said the brief stay in Dar es Salaam gives the trio something they would otherwise have missed had they just come for the single performance at the festival in Zanzibar on Saturday. An additional bonus the band gets from these early exposures is to see how a local audience responds to their music. The Swiss Ambassador to Tanzania, Olivier Chave, told the ‘Daily News’ they thought the act is quite challenging for young new musicians in the country. He referred to OY as being something new and out of the box with their musical sounds based on African idioms fitting the task. By IMAN MANI, Tanzania Daily News

Michael Jackson fans win 1 euro each for ‘emotional damages’

Five Michael Jackson fans have been awarded one euro each by a French court for the “emotional damage” they suffered after the pop star’s death. The case saw 34 fans sue Jackson’s doctor, who was jailed in 2011 for the involuntary manslaughter of the singer. The court in Orleans ruled five fans had proven emotional suffering. Conrad Murray served two years of a four-year term for administering a lethal dose of an anaesthetic drug to Jackson and was released in October. Last month a US court rejected a bid by Murray to have his conviction for involuntary manslaughter overturned. Symbolic damages The five claimants – two from France, two from Switzerland and one from Belgium – were all members of the French-based Michael Jackson Community fan club. Their lawyer said they had proven their suffering “with the help of witness statements and medical certificates.” “As far as I know this is the first time in the world that the notion of emotional damage in connection with a pop star has been recognised,” Emmanuel Ludot told the AFP news agency. “They have been subjected to ridicule and I am delighted their suffering has been taken seriously by the law.” The damages were symbolic, he added, and the claimants would not be seeking to claim the one euro each from Conrad Murray. The five fans say they hope the ruling will help them gain access to Michael Jackson’s grave in Los Angeles, which is closed to the public. Michael Jackson died on 25 June 2009 from an overdose of the powerful anaesthetic propofol. He had been out of the public eye for several years but was preparing for a series of comeback performances at the O2 arena in London. BBC

KTLA anchor Sam Rubin confuses Samuel L. Jackson with Laurence Fishburne on live TV

Actor Samuel L Jackson has scolded a US TV host who mistook him for fellow movie star Laurence Fishburne. Blunder: Los Angeles entertainment anchor, Sam Rubin, pictured left, confused Samuel L. Jackson, right, with Laurence Fishburne on live TV Monday morning, making for an incredibly awkward interview KTLA reporter Sam Rubin began an interview with the actor by asking about his recent Super Bowl commercial. He was referring to an advert for the new Kia sedan – in which Fishburne reprised his role from The Matrix. “We don’t all look alike! We may all be black and famous but we don’t all look alike,” said Jackson. “There’s more than one black guy doing a commercial.” He continued: “I’m the ‘What’s in your wallet?’ black guy. He’s the car black guy. “Morgan Freeman is the other credit card black guy. You only hear his voice, though, so you probably won’t confuse him with Laurence Fishburne,” said the star, who was appearing live from Atlanta. Rubin, from his studio in Hollywood, apologised on numerous occasions and tried to steer Jackson onto a discussion about the revival of Robocop – the original reason for the interview. “Let’s talk about Robocop,” he said. “Oh hell, no,” replied Jackson. “There must be a very short line for your job,” he continued. The actor continued to rib Rubin for his mistake, asking if he would have trouble telling apart his co-stars Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton. “You do know who they all are though, right? Just in case they have some of them on the show. Do some work. Do some research. Make sure you don’t confuse them with those other white actors,” he said

Anna Kendrick is ‘groped’ by Katy Perry (again)… days after singer ‘touches her cleavage’ at the Grammys

Katy Perry took her friendship with Anna Kendrick to the next level … by grabbing Kendrick’s boob. Anna Kendrick is ‘groped’ by Katy Perry in a recent shot added to her Twitter account on Monday Kendrick recently told the story of how Perry “finger banged” her cleavage at the 2014 Grammys, and now, we have photographic proof of another, ahem, interesting encounter between the two ladies. Kendrick took to Twitter on Monday (Feb. 10) to share a photo of Perry feeling her up. Though there’s no “finger banging” involved, Perry copped a feel at the Hollywood Stands Up To Cancer Event. Apparently Perry just likes to get handsy with Kendrick often. “The girl can’t help it,” Kendrick writes. These two are such a handful. Sorry, terrible pun.

Selena Gomez enjoys a relaxing break on a lake as she puts ‘rehab stay’ behind her

Selena Gomez has thanked fans for their support following the news she secretly entered rehab earlier this year. Many fans were surprised when a rep for the Disney star confirmed she’d voluntarily checked into a facility in Arizona in early January for two weeks of treatment. The reasons for the 21-year-old’s stay have not been confirmed but the rep did say it was “not for substance abuse.” Now, on the road to recovery, Selena posted a photo to Instagram on Monday night (10 February) showing herself looking happy and healthy as she enjoyed a day out at a lake with friends. Speaking to fans, she said: “I’ve done everything I could to the best of my ability. Thank you for the unconditional love and cyber hugs. You inspire me.” Selena’s stint in rehab came after she cancelled a string of tour dates in Australia, saying at the time: “My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them. “But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be.” A source added to People that Selena simply needed some time to herself as she’s been working nonstop since she was 15.
