CCM lashes dirty politics, chauvinism

Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has reassured Tanzanians that it is keen on resolving various challenges facing the country, but cautioned against some prophets of doom, irresponsible politicians and chauvinists.

CCM Secretary General (SG) Abdulrahman Kinana said in Morogoro that the party was working on practical solutions on various land conflicts in the country, including those pitting farmers and pastoralists.

Addressing a public rally at the end of his nine-day tour of the region, Mr Kinana said: “We know the problems. We will see to it that they are resolved for the welfare of the nation.” He, however, noted that the problems were sensitive and could not be resolved overnight through what he likened to fire brigade approach.

Mr Kinana also assured Morogoro residents that the party would forward the protracted payments dispute between sugarcane outgrowers and sugar companies to relevant authorities for solution. “This matter has been unresolved for years, let us conclude it once and for all, we cannot allow it to continue,” the SG told the cheering crowd.

Mr Kinana said that the government would handle emerging religious tensions responsibly to foster national unity, citizens’ freedom and the right of worship, but warned Tanzanians against those who use religion to push their private agenda. He said CCM and the government was not going to tolerate any person or groups who insult the president on the pretext of religion.

Mr Kinana urged all stakeholders to observe the law and rules during the process of re-writing the country’s new constitution. “Some people want to hijack the process, I urge stakeholders to respect the legal procedures of reviewing the constitution and let the commission operate independently,” he noted.

Mr Kinana trashed remarks by the Leader of the Official Opposition in Parliament, Mr Freeman Mbowe, who said the Constitution Review Commission (CRC) was manned by people who lacked professional competence. He described Mr Mbowe’s remarks as “demonstration of intellectual chauvinism and political hooliganism” that is characteristic of Chadema’s leadership. “This party is using all its resources at its disposal to usurp powers, they have no national interest but their own interest and blackmail is their strategy,” he stressed.

He called on CCM Members of Parliament to take to task the government on unfulfilled promises, but avoid to be involved in political hooliganism. Earlier, the Party’s Ideology and Publicity Secretary, Mr Nape Nnauye, cautioned Tanzanians to refrain from being involved in political hooliganism. “I urge Tanzanians to be aware of dirty politics that may plunge our country into violence like in some neighbouring countries,” he said.

Mr Nnauye added that they would tell the Registrar of Political Parties to look afresh the operations of other parties and take necessary action.
