The ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi Central Committee (CC-CCM), questioned two leaders out of six who were summoned following the dismisal of eight councillors in Bukoba District Council.
Those who were questioned were the party’s Kagera Regional Chairman, Mr Costantine Bahiye and his Secretary, Everin Mushi. According to the CCM Ideology and Publicity Secretary, Mr Nape Nnauye, the remaining four leaders would be questioned later on.
He mentioned those who were not questioned yesterday as Bukoba Mayor Anatoly Amani, Bukoba District CCM chairman Yusuph Ngaiza, Bukoba District secretary Janeth Kayanda and Bukoba Urban MP Khamis Kagasheki who is also the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism.
Mr Nnauye attributed the failure of questioning the rest to untimely arrival of the leaders as their car experienced technical problems enroute to Dodoma.
He, however, said that they had already arrived in Dodoma and the party would look for appropriate time to question them.
Mr Nnauye had earlier told reporters that after deliberations during a meeting which ended at 2.30 pm yesterday, the CC members could not reach a consensus over the issue.
He said the delegates decided to summon the six leaders to get enough information from them – a situation that would help them reach a decision.
Councillors who were stripped of their party’s membership are from Kitendagulo ward, Samwel Ruangisa; Special Seat Councillor Murungi Kichwabuta; Councillor for Nyanga Ward Deusdedith Mutakyawa and the Councillor for Miembeni ward, who is also the Deputy Mayor Richard Gaspal.
Others are Councillor for Buhembe Ward Alexender Ngalinda; Councillor for Hamugembe Ward Robert Katunzi; Councillor for Ijunganyondo Ward Dauda Kalumuna and Councillor for Nyanga Ward Deusdedit Mutakyahwa.
The National Executive Committee of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (NECCCM) is expected to meet today to discuss various issues related to the country’s new constitution and the party’s welfare.
Earlier, Mr Nnauye said the issue involving the dismissal from the party of former Zanzibar minister, Mansour Yussuf Himid, would also be discussed and decided in the same meeting.
Himid has come under fire in the party following his recent statements including his opposite stand from that of the party over the format of the Union in the new constitution. Mr Nnauye said that the party’s CC has forwarded his case to NEC which is the party’s organ with powers to revoke membership. Himid is the NEC representative from Kiembesamaki.
