The draw for this year’s CECAFA senior challenge Cup will be held on Monday in Nairobi with Djibouti the only team yet to confirm participation in the tournament that kicks off on November 27th.
This will be the first time Kenya is hosting the competition since 2009 with Uganda having hosted the last edition in Kampala where they defeated Kenya in the finals.
Nairobi’s Nyayo stadium, Moi Sports Centre Kasarani, Kisumu stadium, Mombasa and Machakos are some of the venues identified to host the competition.
CECAFA officials’ are expected to tour the venues for inspection next week on 15th November with Machakos, Mombasa and Kisumu stadiums still under renovations.
Already the national soccer team, Taifa Stars Coach Kim Poulsen picked 30 players, who will form Stars’ second string side baptized ‘Future Young Taifa Stars’ that pitched camp yesterday to prepare for Senior Challenge Cup, which kick-off on November 27 in Nairobi, Kenya.
Poulsen has named two national team squads – Taifa Stars and Future Young Stars – with the two sides set to face each other on Wednesday after that the camp will be disbanded and players who will excel will be picked to join senior players and form the Mainland team, Kilimanjaro Stars, which will travel to Arusha for final preparations.
Apart from Kenya, which will field two teams by virtue of being the host of this prestigious tournament, other members expected to participate in this tournament are the defending champions Uganda, Tanzania Mainland, Zanzibar.
