Chadema Party’s Member Of Parliament Beaten To Death In Dar Es Salaam

A local political leader of Chadema party in the Hanansif district in Dar es Salaam was beaten to death amid heated local election campaign.

Chadema party chairman Freeman Mbowe said Daniel John was kidnapped on Monday and was bundled in a car by couple of men.

Mbowe added John was leader of the opposition in parliament and his friend was simultaneously snatched on the street but survived the attack to describe the incidence.

The chairman added, “They were beaten and tortured, and the torturers were asking why they were campaigning for Chadema’s candidate.”

The leader’s body was delivered Wednesday and supporters of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party are being accused to have kidnapped and attacked the member of parliament.

Mbowe accuses the President John Magufuli government wants to get everything by force in the country.

Late last year a senior opposition lawmaker was shot too at his home in the capital Dodoma. He was hospitalized in Nairobi, capital of neighboring Kenya, and after getting treatment for several months was transferred to a hospital in Brussels.

The ruling party was accused to have attacked Tundu Lissu. The government however rejected the claims.

Magufuli won presidential election in October 2015 and was sworn in on November 5. Since then he has been nicknamed “the Bulldozer” for his strict policies and imposing measures like foreign travel restrictions for government officials and suspension of ghost workers from state payroll.

In 2016 the president said has plans of submitting a parliamentary bill to prohibit public leaders from engaging in business so that conflicts of interest are avoided.
