Tanzanians have been urged to mark commemoration of the Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, by fighting crime in their localities in order to sustain peace and security in the country.
Police Force spokesperson, SSP Advera Senso, said this when giving her views on the way she would like to see people commemorating the passing of the Father of the Nation.
She said Mwalimu Nyerere was a man of unshakable principles who disliked corruption and embezzlement of public funds, segregation and crime. Ms Senso noted that all the things that Mwalimu disliked were inimical to the meaningful development of any country, adding that any country needs peace and tranquillity for its people to work for economic prosperity.
She said members of the public were essential stakeholders in keeping the country peaceful, because they were expected to help law-enforcers in reporting and arresting perpetrators of criminal acts.
Ms Senso called on citizens of goodwill to extend support to police officers who have recently been posted to divisions in a move to enhance security at the grass roots. “If families are safe, we shall have safe streets, safe wards, safe divisions and a safe country,” she said.
