The Ruangwa District would soon graphite mines. Two
companies are preparing construction and Regional Commissioner Godfrey Zambi said mining would start at any time in 2019.
Minerals.net website reveals the area is exclusively composed of the element of carbon. Graphite is mostly used for parts of pencils, planes, brake linings, lubricants, foundry facings and phone batteries.
Tanzania Mining Commission Executive Secretary Prof Shukrani Manya said late last year the Magufuli government had issued licences to five companies in Ruangwa and those are Uranex, Nazareth, Pacco Gem, Ngwena and Walkabout.
According to Manya the graphite mining Uranex would be building up infrastructure for the first Graphite Special Economic Zone in Tanzania.
The commission’s boss added, “The mining and processing of the graphite will be conducted here (in Lindi).”
A website reveals prices of graphite are stable even though seasonal production has been reduced and the purification cost in China is up.
The website added, “China’s automobile industry investment regulation change expected to encourage further investment in domestic battery industry; EV battery import tariffs increased.”
The area also has a good reserve of gold, coal, marble and gypsum.
Meanwhile, a Business Forum is on the card Between March 25 and 27. It would be organized and conducted by the Lindi Regional Commissioner’s Office in collaboration with Tanzania Standard Newspapers Limited (TSN).
The forum is expected to bring together investors, entrepreneurs, business community, implementers and policy makers to explore the untapped opportunities in the mining sector of Tanzania.
