The Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) has organised the September Monthly Mug Golf Tournament, scheduled to tee off today at the club course.
Club’s Golf Captain Akhil Yusufali, told the ‘Daily News on Saturday’ in Dar es Salaam on Friday that preparations are in top gear to host the 18hole stroke play event. The tournament, according to captain, will be sponsored by Dar based M/S Lonagro Tanzania Limited under their John Deere brand.
“We are happy and pleased that M/S Lonagro Tanzania Limited under their John Deere brand has confirmed to sponsor our September mug,” he said. Yusufali added that the tournament will have a shotgun start at 14:00hrs on Friday.
A shotgun start is a golf tournament format in which all groups of players tee off simultaneously from different holes. Each group start play at the same time. A shotgun start will allow a tournament to end at the same time.
The captain said registration for those wishing to participate will close at 13:00hrs and appealed to golfers to turn in large number so as to make the tournament a success. “Please make note that the time to register will start an hour before the starting time.
We will mix up all golfers. No group requests will be entertained. He appealed to experienced golfers to help new members in the section to enlighten them what a ‘shotgun’ start means. “I would like to request all golfers to arrive in time as it will be impossible to accommodate late entries due to the nature of the shotgun start.”
