Angel Eaton challengers have to be wondering just what it will take to stop this girl in Mombasa after the national ladies golf team member cruised to her second Kenya Ladies Coastal Open victory this season at the Nyali Golf and Country Club Stroke Play Nyali Bowl Championship on Thursday.
Although the reigning 36 holes Nyali Bowl champion was disappointed after her goal to claim the first Leisure Trophy in the 18 holes stroke play event on Tuesday did not materialise, Angel bounced back with a spirited challenge at Nyali course to claim the title for third consecutive year after she collected a total of 152.
The champion started the tireless day of 36 holes battle slowly at the second place with six-over 78 gross, two shots adrift of leader after the morning first round. However, she came back strongly at the final round in the evening, carding two-over 74 to claim a four shots victory.
Kenyan prospect and All Africa Challenge Trophy 2012 junior champion Naomi Wafula fought back to ensure that all top prizes are not going to Tanzania after finishing first runners up with 156 (79,77). First round leader– national team ace Madina Iddi, who had an opening of 76, lost her footing and slipped to second runners up after closing with 81.
The Leisure Trophy winner Madina had better chance to finish at lest at the top two but fortune was not on her side. The Stroke Play event which marked Kenya Ladies Golfer of the Year was sponsored by Aryuv Agencies Ltd.
Meanwhile Angel Eaton and Neema Olomi finished overall first runners up at the 18 holes Scratch Ladies Foursomes sponsored by Kaluworks at the same course on Wednesday. The duo collected total 25 points, just a point behind winners Kenyan Mary Nyanchama and Naomi Wafula who returned 26 points.
Angel lost the title she won last year together with Ayne Magombe, who missed this year’s event. Ayne is in USA for further studies. Nevertheless, Nyali Bowl victory adds to Stable Ford format that Angel won at the Vipingo Ridge Baobab Championship Golf Course on Monday.
She won it with 38 points. The national team members were on action yesterday at Mombasa Golf Club for a Golfer of the Year event, sponsored by Gold Crown Beverages (K) Ltd. The lady golfers will battle it out in Mixed Greensomes with men’s today, which is the last day of the Coast Open series. The event will be sponsored by National Bank.
