The Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Mr Saidi Mecky Sadiki, has directed the city fathers to speed up carrying out projects under the Big Results Now (BRN) in order to meet the 2016 deadline.
Addressing a stakeholders’ meeting on BRN in the city yesterday, Mr Sadiki said the government would not tolerate business as usual syndrome while implementing the projects.
“We have formed two special committees tasked to coordinate and supervise projects under the programme,” he noted. Mr Sadiki said the government has earmarked six areas including power energy, education, water, transport, agriculture and mobilization of resources, adding that it has prioritized mobilization of resources in order to increase income.
“We have prioritized the areas because they are the foundation to spearhead social and economic development,” said Mr Sadiki. He said that the region has set different strategic plans to speed up projects under the programme, saying strengthening system to supervise the programme remain a major challenge.
Mr Edward Mbanga, who is the Assistant Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS)-Policy and Plans, said a total of 168 projects will be implemented under the BRN in 2013/14 financial year, saying the city council has already implemented ten projects.
“All we need is maximum cooperation from different stakeholders to finish the projects timely,” said Mr Mbanga. The BRN, which was unveiled by President Jakaya Kikwete in February, is the government’s initiative to facilitate transition from low to middle income economy. It aims at adopting new methods of working under specified timeframe for delivery of the step change required.
