Dhanji wins charity golf title


Ali Dhanji scored stunning eight-under 44 stable ford points to emerge the Chipua Fund A Child Charity golf overall winner at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) course over the weekend.

Playing off handicap-18, Dhanji overwhelmed over 45 rivals who turned up for the tournament that organised to raise fund to pay for education of underprivileged orphan girls to enable them complete high school.

Dhanji was awarded a Dar-Zanzibar return air ticket for being the overall winner. His marvellous performance saw his handicap also change from 18 to 16.

He won by a difference of three points to his closest challenger Hamis Ally, handicap-5, who carded five-under 41 points in the 18 holes event.

Playing off handicap-5, Iddi Mzaki took Division A top prize after returning four-under 40 points and saw his handicap chopped to 4, while Michael Makala, handicap-4, finished runner-up with 38 on countback against national team captain Victor Joseph and Irfaan Jaffer who also returned the same score.

Division B top prize went to Hitesh Valambia, handicap-15, with 39 points as Kausar Jeraj, playing off handicap 11, finished runner-up with 38 points and his handicap also changes to 10.


Navin Kanabar carded 33 points to take home Division C top prize and Ronard Phiri, handicap-24, finished second on coutback.The ladies top prize went to Vailet Peter, handicap-22, while Fatma Makame, handicap-24, settled for second place on countback.

Sumar Assad, handicap-32, and Ali Jaffer, handicap 30, carded 43 and 35 points to emerge juniors champions and runner-up respectively.
The longest drive men and women went to Victor Joseph and Fatma Dewji.

The one day event was organised by a young man and keen golfer Sameer Nazarali, a student at International School of Tanganyika (IST) of Dar es Salaam and the son of Shakil Nazerali, with the aim of raising money for educational purposes and help improve others’ lives.

Club captain Akhil Yusufali thanked those who turned up to make it possible for Nazarali to realise his dream of helping others.
