It was fun and excitement as Diva Awards Afrika recognised a number of female artistes and women for their commitment and excellence in their respective works.
The well attended event took place at Kigali Serena hotel, on Friday.
Jeanne d’Arc Ingabire Butera, aka Knowless received the award for the best video, while female rapper Aisha Uwimana, aka Ciney took the Best Women song award.
Allion Buzindu was recognised as an upcoming diva and Pacifique Oda Uzamberumwana, aka Paccy took the Outstanding Diva award.
Maria Yohana was voted best Traditional folk diva, while Gaby Irene Kamanzi was voted best gospel artiste.
“I am really happy and this should not only inspire me, but also other women out there. Just like the message I send out in my song to encourage women to be independent and self-reliant,” Ciney said, shortly after receiving the award.
Other women, who were awarded include, Hope Azeda for theatre and acting, Grace Nyinawumuntu in sports category, Giramahoro Georgette in marketing, Christine Murebwayire in business, Colombe Ndituye for fashion and Esther Mbabazi, Rwanda’s first female pilot currently working with Rwandair.
Rwanda television’s entertainment presenter Tijara Kabendera was recognised for her work in the media, while Apostle Alice Mignonne Kabera was selected as society role model.
The event was spiced up by performances from local artistes.
