Muslims and non-Muslims in Zanzibar have been urged to coexist and love each other. The call was made here on Monday night during the celebrations of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)’s birthday.
The celebrations marked at Mnazi-Mmoja grounds in Zanzibar were led by Zanzibar President, Ali Mohamed Shein, his vice presidents: Maalim Seif Sharif and Ambassador Seif Ali Iddi, and other high dignitaries.
“We must follow the footsteps of the prophet, hard work, care, honesty and living peacefully with others at all time,” said the mufti of Zanzibar Sheikh Omar Saleh Kabi.
Festivities traditionally begin on the first day of Rabie al- Awal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar and culminate on the 12th day of the month – the date of the Prophet’s birthday, which this year fell on a Monday.
During this period, Muslims gather in various places in the country, offering a series of lectures on the Prophet’s life, delivered by leading Muslim scholars, to highlight Prophet Muhammad’s spiritual and ethical teachings.
