Drug Suspect Made N300K Per Month From Begging In Nigeria

Nigeria, Lagos – A suspected drug addict reveals to have been making more than N300,000 per month from begging in Ikeja.

The Rapid Response Sqaud of Lagos State Command said the 56-year-old Kehinde Olatubosun along with eighteen other drug addicts were arrested Saturday night.

Olatubosun said he managed making more than N10,000 daily by begging at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Mobolajo Bank Anthony Roundabout, and Opebi.

The suspect added sometimes he would collaborate with other beggars and shared whatever they made. He use to get a larger share.

He use to get LASUTH drug prescription papers from waste bin and begged convincing passengers and motorists he is in need of many to buy drugs for his sick relative.

In 2004 Olatubosun was deported from Germany where he had worked for twelve years as Electrical Engineer in Bauhusa, Colon. He was deported after caught in possession of hard drugs.

All the money he made from begging goes into drugs as he experience withdrawal symptoms when he is not on drugs.

Olatubosun has four children – two lives in Germany with his wife, one in Texas and the fourth one in Nigeria.

Another arrested drug addict said he has destroyed his life for being hooked up for more than seventeen years.

The 48-year-old Dada Ajayi added, “‎I am trying to get over it now; drug has been the cause of my stagnation in life.”

He mentioned further arresting the drug barons or dealers is required as their arrest won’t help in saving people. They will find way how to get the drugs if the supply is not cut.
