Former FUFA boss John Baptist Ssemanobe has called upon the government to quickly swing into action and disband FUFA Limited saying its continued existence violates the national law.
He made the appeal while appearing before the education and sports committee of parliament on the state of Ugandan football.
This follows a recent petition by a section of Uganda’s football stakeholders led by former footballer Daniel Walusimbi calling on the government to suspend all dealings with FUFA Ltd.
Ssemanobe, who could not keep his emotions in check, noted that “we believe no one is above the law and the law can never be used selectively.”
He said that in February 2005, the then FUFA executive led by Denis Obua (RIP) was disbanded by the then education minister Namirember Bitamazire on grounds of violating the National Council of Sports Act.
He said the minister acted because “we had registered the federation as a private limited company (FUFA Ltd by guarantee).
I have minister Bitamazire’s letter here if you like to look at it.” Sssemanobe added that the disbandment of FUFA executive “consequently led to the imprisonment of Obua who was also the CECAFA president and a CAF committee member.” Sssemanobe, also a former international, wondered why the current FUFA Ltd arrangement should be treated differently.
