Fire kills two children in Dar


Three people have died in separate incidents including two children who have been burnt to death in a fire accident which occurred at the weekend in Dar es Salaam, police have confirmed.

In the first incident two children named Mariam Philipo (3) and Miriam Philiipo (4 months) have been burnt to death in a fire accident which occurred at Tabata Kisukuru in Ilala municipality.

The Ilala Regional Police Commander (RPC), Marietha Minangi, said in the city yesterday that the fire broke out suddenly around 04:50 pm.

“The fire broke out in a house with eight rooms. The house belongs to one Nanjenjwa Mathayo. The inferno destroyed one room rented by a tenant called Peter Philipo (40), a teacher at Ali Hassani Mwinyi Primary School at Kawe,” she said.


Minangi further said that the fire killed two children who were sleeping while their mother, Doroth Philipo (36), was out to see off guests who had came to visit their family. The cause of the fire and the value of destroyed property are yet to be known.

She said the fire was put out by the fire brigade and the city rescue force with help from neighbours. The bodies of the deceased have been preserved at the Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) mortuary pending burial arrangements.

In a separate incident, Beatrice Mmillingo a woman aged between 25 and 30 years died and a man named Dereick Grin injured in a road accident which occurred at Kiluvya along Morogoro Road.
