Former Tanzanian President Lands At Harare Airport For Week-Long Zimbabwe Visit

Former Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa is now on a week-long visit to Zimbabwe where he is expected to meet President Robert Mugabe too.

Landing at the Harare International Airport, Mkapa was received by Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko, Minister of Defence Sydney Sekeramayi and Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi.

According to Foreign Affairs permanent secretary Mr Joey Bimha, the former Tanzanian President has prescheduled series of programs in his visit to Zimbabwe.

He said, “I can confirm that Mr Benjamin Mkapa is in the country after landing at 1am and he has many engagements before he travels back.”

He is expected to visit Alpha Omega Dairy and Amai Mugabe School and Children’s Home. He may also officiate at the Southern African Research and Documentation Centre (SARDC) renaming ceremony. It will be henceforth named as Julius K Nyerere House.

Mkapa is scheduled to deliver a lecture at the Zimbabwe Defence College on Friday and also to visit couple of places in Manicaland later on the same day.

Mkapa was President of Tanzania from 1995 to 2005. He was the third after independence.
