Friendz, Kimanga Tanzania darts champions

Dar es Salaam’s Friendz and Kimanga emerged men’s and women’s champions of the first ever national darts club championship in Morogoro over the weekend.

Friendz took the men’s title after beating hosts Uluguru of Morogoro 9-3 in an exciting final. The champions played a high-quality game to overwhelm their opponents before sealing the win. Kimanga clinched the women’s title after edging Mbeya Police 4-3 in the final.

Dar es Salaam also dominated the tournament in the singles and doubles categories. Adelade Chikoma of Police Barracks won the men’s singles against John Mlay of Kimanga while Irene Kihupi emerged the ladies singles queen. Gabriel Komba and Chikoma grabbed the men’s doubles trophy.

“It’s a great achievement for our region,” the Dar es Salaam Amateur Darts Association (DADA), secretary Lambert Rwihula, said.

“With all the problems we faced we are returning home with trophies and this is something to remember.”

Dar es Salaam teams were on the verge of boycotting the tournament following differences with the Tanzania Amateur Dart Association (TADA). They were, however, allowed to participate in the eleventh hour.

Dar es Salaam champions Friendz, runners-up Police Barracks, Kimanga and Lugalo represented the region in the tournament.

Eleven teams, including those from hosts Morogoro, Moshi, Mbeya, Dodoma, Arusha and Dar es Salaam, took part in the tournament organised by TADA for the first time in history.
