Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC) chairman Tony Frisby won the Nyerere Day golf tournament on Monday. The 18 holes stroke play competition was organized by the club to honour Tanzania’s first President Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.
Handicap-10 Frisby had all but smile after winning the tournament on countback after tying two-under par 70 nett with the club’s secretary Richard Gomes.
It was a good week for Frisby who over the weekend finished second at the Corporate golf tournament after returning 33 points.
The event’s top prize went to handicap-12 Peniel Uliwa for the second consecutive time after firing level 36 points. Gomes, handicap-7, was Nyerere Day Division A first runner-up and the tournament’s lowest gross score of 77 as Uliwa missed the event.
His handicap also improves to 6 due to his good performance. Frisby’s son Jason, handicap-9, had 76 nett to finish second runner-up on countback to Arun Lodhia, handicap-12, who also returned the same score.
Lodhia, just promoted to Division A last Saturday after stunning three-under 39 stable ford points that earned him Division B top prize at corporate golf tournament, shows that he can match other top division players.
The Division B top prize went to Mrisho Sarakikya, handicap-15, who carded a marvelous score of three-under par 69 nett which is the tournament’s best nett score.
Sarakikya, whose passion for sports never prevents him from playing golf, was forced to use a golf cart as his ailing legs could not allow him to walk long distance. His handicap was also chopped to 14.
The Division B runner-up position went to handicap-21, S. Kaaya, who carded level 72 nett as Murad Jivan, handicap-22, finished second runner-up on countback.
George Ogutu, handicap-24, emerged Division C winner with 77 nett, while Zainab Laicer, handicap-24, the only lady in the event, carded 87 nett to top the group.
