The rivalry between Ford-Kenya and New Ford-Kenya played out when MPs from the two parties differed over the referendum to change the Constitution.
Trans-Nzoia women representative Mrs Janet Nangabo kicked off the storm when she dismissed the push for the referendum arguing that the country was not ready for a change of the Constitution.
A funds drive at Immaculate Catholic Church in Kitale then turned political. Nangabo and Saboti MP David Wekesa from New Ford-Kenya had urged the faithful to reject the referendum calls when senators Henry ole Ndiema, Catherine Mukite and Kiminini MP Dr Chris Wamalwa interjected and urged Kenyans to back thereferendum.
Has defects
“It is like a husband forcing his wife, with a pregnancy of seven months, to push out the baby before the right time,” Wekesa said. Ndiema said the Constitution has some defects and needed changes. “There is need to amend the Constitution to suit the interest of Kenyans,” Mukite commented.
