General Service Unit ( GSU) emerged the overall winners in the men category of the APHIA Plus Kamili volleyball tournament staged at the Kisumu’s Lion High School grounds after beating Ulinzi in straight 3-0 sets in the finals.
The two sides, which met during the league encounter on Friday, with GSU claiming a narrow 3-2 set victory, had fate pairing them together in the finals of the tournament played on Sunday.
GSU, who were in a class of their own, showed intent to win from the first set after dismissing Ulinzi 25-17, and latter thrashed the Defence Force team 25-18 and 26-24 to win the tournament that was watched by a capacity filled court.
In the ladies category, Kenya Pipeline Corporation (KPC) continued with their dominance in the volleyball games whipping Kenya Commercial Bank ( KCB) 3-0.
With league champions Kenya Prisons away in Zurich for the World Club Championships, starting tomorrow, Pipeline got the room to silence their opponents and rule the rost. They beat KCB in straight sets of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-18 to win over the silverware.
To qualify for the finals in the men category, GSU had clobbered Co-operative Bank 3-0 sets of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-23 in the first semi finals.
While in the second semis, Ulinzi narrowly saw off Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 3-2 sets of 25-20, 24-26, 25-18, 19-25, and 15-8.
To qualify for the ladies finals, Kenya Pipeline romped through by beating Ulinzi 3-0 sets of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-11.
In the second semis, KCB got a resounding win over Blue Triangle of 3-1 sets (25-18, 25-17, 27-25 and 25-23).
Over to the Kenya Volleyball Federation top League (Division One), GSU again won 3-2 over Ulinzi, which was used to spice up the action ahead of the APHIA Plus Kamili volleyball tournament.
GSU whipped Ulinzi 23-25, 25-14, 21-25, 25-12 and 15-10 to win over the league event that was held on day one of the three-day event that started on Friday.
In another league result, Co-operative Bank silenced Ulinzi 3-2 (25-19, 21-25, 24-14, 29-31, 16-18). Forest Rangers were too good against Oserian claiming a straight 3-0 set win of 25-21, 25-15, and 25-14 while GSU also beat Kenya Airways 3-0 sets of 25-12, 25-21 and 25-22.
