Government To Switch-Off All Counterfeit Mobile Devices After June 16

Dar es Salaam – The government has made it clear would not be extending the date of switching-off of all the counterfeit mobile devices in the country. June 15, 2016, will be the last day for the operation of such electronic equipments, said the Minister for Works, Transport and Communication, Professor Makame Mbarawa.

From the stroke of the First Hour on June 16, 2016, the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) will start switching-off of fake cell phone handsets and other related devices across the nation.

Professor Mbarawa added it would be shocking for those who think the government may extend the date switching-off of counterfeit electronic equipments.

When asked where consumers will dump the fake devices after the switching-off, the minister said TCRA will issue directives in relation to it before shutting down as there are regulations on the e-waste products management.

Meanwhile, TTCL has announced launching of 4G LTE service on its network to provide high quality services to customers.

With 4G LTE network consumers to get superfast internet speed for smooth surfing and quick downloading of content as well as to make uninterrupted Skype calls.

According to Professor Mbarawa, the state-owned company will be providing the high speed internet with 800 MHz of frequencies to compete with private players in the market.

The 800 MHz frequency is said to encompass 790-862 MHz.
