A tractor crashed in to a bus in Inhambupe, Brazil, killing 14

A coach travelling from Sao Paulo to Paulo Afonso has crashed head-on with a bulldozer which had fallen off a truck, killing 14 people.

Police say the crash occurred in the northeastern state of Bahia when the truck turned a corner at high speed, dislodging the bulldozer.

The passenger coach travelling in the opposite direction was unable to stop and crashed straight into the bulldozer.

The company which owns the coach, Gontijo, said there were 30 passengers on board at the time of the crash.

Brazilian authorities said 14 people were killed, and a further 21 people were injured.

The driver of the truck initially left the scene, but later presented himself with a lawyer at the local Alagoinhas police station.

Police have confirmed the 43 year-old driver had the correct driving licence. He reportedly told police that as far as he was aware the bulldozer had been tied down properly and that he had no idea why the bulldozer had come off the back of the truck.

Three ambulances took passengers from the scene to a nearby hospital.

The accident left the main access road closed for nearly six hours.
